Most budget webcam advice is written for video calls. Streaming is different: you’re moving, reacting and sitting in a gaming room that’s often lit by a monitor and some RGB. So we’ve focused on the specs that matter on stream – frame rate, autofocus and how the camera copes with poor light. Every webcam here was listed at under £50 on Amazon UK when we shortlisted it (October 2026). Prices change, so use the buttons to check today’s price. (Here’s how we choose products.)

Best overall

1. Elgato Facecam Neo

by Elgato

Who it’s for: Streamers who want smooth 60fps video from a brand built around streaming, with no setup.

Verdict: Elgato’s budget webcam does the two things streamers care about most – 1080p at 60fps and HDR for awkward lighting.

What we like

  • 1080p at 60fps for less motion blur (per the listing)
  • HDR to help in harsh or mixed lighting
  • Plug-and-play, no software needed
  • Built-in slide privacy shutter

Worth knowing

  • No built-in microphone is mentioned on the listing – you’ll want a separate mic anyway
  • Slightly narrower feature list than the EMEET 4K cams

Buying guide

The specs that matter for streaming on Twitch

  1. Frame rate. 60fps looks noticeably smoother when you move. Only #1, #2 and #3 list 1080p at 60fps.
  2. Autofocus vs fixed focus. Autofocus keeps you sharp when you lean in to show something. Fixed focus is fine if you stay put.
  3. Field of view. About 70–80° frames a face nicely. 90–110° shows more of the room – great for setups, less flattering for a face cam.
  4. Low light. Look for HDR or low-light correction, but don’t expect miracles.

Lighting beats resolution

A £30 webcam in good light will beat a £50 webcam in a dark room every time. Put a soft light in front of you, slightly above eye level, and turn down bright lights behind you.

Don’t forget audio

Webcam mics are fine for calls, but viewers notice bad audio far more than a soft picture. Pair your camera with one of our best streaming microphones under £50, and if your desk is getting crowded, a budget mic arm gets the mic out of shot and closer to your mouth.

Prices change all the time. We don’t show prices on What2Buy – use the “Check price on Amazon” buttons for the current price.

FAQ

Do I need 60fps for streaming?

It helps if you move a lot or react on camera – motion looks smoother. For a small face cam in the corner of a game, 30fps is fine. If you want 60fps, pick #1, #2 or #3.

Is 4K worth it on a budget webcam?

For live streaming, rarely – most streams go out at 1080p or lower. 4K helps with recorded videos and lets you crop in. The EMEET C950 (#3) is the best of both, since it also does 1080p at 60fps.

Will these webcams work with OBS?

Yes – they’re all standard USB webcams, so OBS and Streamlabs see them as a normal video source with no drivers needed.

Why does my webcam look grainy?

Almost always lighting. Budget webcams struggle in dim rooms lit by a monitor. A small key light in front of you makes a bigger difference than spending more on the camera.

Are these prices guaranteed to be under £50?

No. Everything here was listed at under £50 on Amazon UK when we shortlisted it, but Amazon prices change constantly. Always check the current price on Amazon before you buy – that’s why we don’t print prices on the page.
